There’s some big news in the Bubly world. There is in Canada, at least. Bubly recently announced that two customer favourites were permanently returning. The first was one that I loved when it came out as a limited time option a couple years ago, apple. The other, and the one I’m going to write about right now, was mango.
I’ve never been a huge fan of mango flavour. It doesn’t do much for me when I’m tasting it alone. With other flavours, though, mango can be a nice accent. I’m thinking of a peach mango ginger ale I had a few weeks ago. The mango worked as a complementary flavour to the peach. If something isn’t mango forward, I’m likely to appreciate it more than I would something that’s just a mango taste.
That brings me to mango Bubly. I’ve never had it before this rerelease. It must have been a flavour that came out before I really got into Bubly. As soon as they announced the release of the two new permanent flavours, I headed to the grocery store and grabbed a case of each. I drank one can on the way to work yesterday. I’m cracking another right now as I write this post.
Ninety percent of the mango in this Bubly is in the smell. The moment you lift the can up to take a sip, you get a nose full of that mango scent. The taste is still there in your mouth, but the smell really drives the flavour. There is a lasting aftertaste, too. The mango sits in your mouth well after you finish sipping away. When you burp, it comes back, and it comes back strong. Mango is possibly the most complete flavour of Bubly. It’s not my favourite, though. So there’s that.
Now we’re onto the best part of any Bubly post. It’s time for me to get Bublé on your butts. Let’s think about this one. I don’t hate the mango flavour. I think it’s a good flavour that just doesn’t sit right with my palate. This is much different than cherry, which I outright dislike and think is a bad flavour. This is a well put together flavour that isn’t for me. The song I’m going with is another cover song. Michael Bublé has a million cover songs. He went disco for a bit with You’re the First, the Last, My Everything. It’s a decently done modern disco song, but his crooning style with disco doesn’t sit well with me. That’s pretty comparable to mango Bubly. I can see the appeal. It’s just not my flavour.
Here's my current ranking of Bubly flavours. Peach, blackberry, merryberry, pineapple, watermelon, mango, lime, coconut pineapple, and finally cherry.
